 When putting together your email marketing campaign, here are some strategies that will give you the most impact and hopefully best return for your campaign.

 
Make sure that you keep the content of your email marketing campaign relevant. If you are sending out a newsletter tailor it to your audience. And stay away from a lot of capitalization and exclamation points for emphasis.  This will trigger the spam filters and your email message may not make it to your prospective customers.
 
Use the information that your receive from the results of your last marketing campaign to shape your new promotional piece.  The results that you receive are an invaluable tool and will give you insight into what is working and what is not.
 
Try an A/B split if you want to test some different versions of your promo piece.  You will see which side has the better response so you can tailor your next campaign accordingly.
 
Use surveys to find out more about your prospective customers, existing customers and get referrals to build your list.  You can also find out more about your demographics.  You can offer specials or discounts or even a free product for people celebrating a birthday.
 
Use autoresponders to direct your email campaign.  Have a follow up option if someone clicks on your site.  Prompt them to sign up for future events. Record a special thank you option that can be used to call new customers who made a purchase.
 
Test out your email package before it is sent to your customers.  You will not only make sure that it will get through easily but you will see how it will look to your customers.  It is important to check the deliverability of your email campaign ahead of time to avoid all the pitfalls you can before it actually does mail out.
 
Have a clear “From” name on your email so that it will be opened by the recipient and not just thrown in the trash because they don’t recognize it. Don’t use a personal name – yours or anyone from your company.  Simply use your company or organization’s name. This is another good reason to test your emails before they are sent out to your list.
 
Try out different email marketing companies.  These companies have all of the tools, templates and services that can give you a killer presentation and improve your ROI (return on investment).  There are newsletter and survey templates you can use, reporting options in real time charts, and direct guidance on what has worked for others in the past.  Most companies have a free trial where you can check out their services for a 30 or 60-day period before you sign up.
